On April 24, 2020, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Family Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar held video conference with State rural development ministers. During the meet, the minister shared plan of GoI to boost rural development scheme
Highlights
The following schemes are to be boosted under rural development programme
- Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS)
- Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
- National Rural Livelihood Mission
The plan is to create employment in rural areas and to strengthen rural infrastructure, facilitate diversification of rural livelihoods. The schemes have been selected based on the relaxation granted in non-containment areas by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Funds Allocated
- The Ministry of Rural Development has so far released Rs 36,000 crores to the states and union territories for the year 2020-21.
- The scheme of MGNREGA has been allocated with Rs 20, 225 crores.
- However, the funds are to be used to clear the outstanding dues of MGNREGA scheme in the previous year.
- It is to be noted that the GoI has recently launched the E-Gram Swaraj and Swamitva Scheme to help in developmental activities and to reduce land disputes respectively.
