G20 Digital Economy Ministers meet held through video conference


On April 30, 2020, G20 Digital Economy Ministers meeting was convened. A ministerial statement was issued by the G20 Digital Economy Task Force at the meet. India was represented by the Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Highlights

According to the meet, the ministers have decided on the following
  • To strengthen communication infrastructure
  • To improve infrastructure to achieve cyber secure world
  • To provide non-personal data exchange in a secured manner
  • To make use digital solutions in health care.

G20 meet

  • A virtual G20 meet was held on March 27, 2020. 
  • The meet was chaired by Saudi Arabia. 
  • The countries decided to inject 5 trillion USD to improve the global economy that is badly affected due to COVID-19 threats. 
  • This ministerial meet is a follow up of the main summit
  • The G20 countries also held agricultural ministers meet where the countries agreed to work together on food security and nutrition. 
  • A finance ministerial meeting was held and concluded that coordination among the member countries will be enhanced. 
  • Also, the International Monetary Fund will deliver a support package.
  • The energy ministers of G20 met to ensure stable energy markets. 
  • The energy markets were badly affected as the demands of oil reduced throughout the world due to lock down.
