The World Health Organization, Nursing Now Campaign and the International Council of Nurses released the State of World’s Nursing report. The report has been released as United Nations marks 2020 as the Year of Nurse and Midwife.
Key Findings of the report
- There are 36.9 nurses per 10,000 people with variations in different parts of the world.
- The number of nurses in Americas is 10 times more than that of Africa.
- In America, there are 83.4 nurse per 10,000 people and in Africa there are 8.7 nurses per 10,000 people.
- According to the report, the shortage is to increase to 5.7 million nurses.
- The largest shortages is to occur in he South East Asian regions.
- The Europeans and Mediterranean people are dependent on migrant nurses.
India
- According to the report, there are 1.56 million nurses in India.
- However, of these nurses, the professional nurses are 67%.
- Around 322,827 nurses are graduating every year.
- Nurses comprise of 47% of medical staff in India.
- The doctors constitute 23.3%, dentists constitute 5.5% and pharmacists constitute 24.1% of medical staff in India.
