Actor Rishi Kapoor died of Leukemia


On April 30, the 67 old Bollywood actor died of Leukemia. He has won several awards including the National Film Award.

About Leukemia

  • Leukemia is a type of cancer that is present found in human blood and bone marrow. 
  • It is caused due to the rapid production of white blood cells. 
  • The white blood cells affected by Leukemia are unable to fight against infection. 
  • White Blood Cells gives immune power to human body fighting against diseases. 
  • Leukemia also impairs the ability of the bone marrow to produce platelets and red blood cells.

Classification of Leukemia

  • There are four types of Leukemia. 
  • They are Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. 
  • Science has still not provided solution to prevent Leukemia as the cause of the disease is not yet known.
  • Lymphocytic leukemia is abnormal growth of bone marrow cells. 
  • Here the bone marrow cells mature into white blood cells. 
  • Myelogenous leukemia is caused due to abnormal growth of bone marrow cells that mature into red blood cells.

National Film Awards

  • National Film Awards are presented by the President of India. 
  • A national panel appointed by the government of India selects the winners of the award.
