- భారత అథ్లెటిక్స్‌ సమాఖ్య (ఏఎఫ్‌ఐ) అధ్యక్షుడు ఆదిల్‌ సుమరివాలాకు అరుదైన గౌరవం దక్కింది. అతడు 2023 ఆగస్టు 17న ప్రపంచ అథ్లెటిక్స్‌ (డబ్ల్యూఏ) ఉపాధ్యక్షుడిగా ఎన్నికయ్యాడు.
- ప్రపంచ ట్రాక్‌ అండ్‌ ఫీల్డ్‌లో అత్యంత శక్తిమంతమైన సమాఖ్యలో ఉపాధ్యక్ష పదవిని చేపట్టిన మొదటి భారతీయుడు సుమరివాలానే.
- 2012 నుంచి ఏఎఫ్‌ఐ అధ్యక్షుడిగా కొనసాగుతున్న 65 ఏళ్ల సుమరివాలా..ఇటీవల జరిగిన ఎన్నికల్లో మూడో అత్యధిక ఓట్లు సంపాదించాడు.
- నలుగురు ఉపాధ్యక్షుల్లో సుమరివాలా ఒకరు. నాలుగేళ్ల పాటు ఆయన పదవిలో కొనసాగుతాడు.
- 100 మీటర్ల అథ్లెట్‌గా ఒలింపిక్స్‌లో పాల్గొన్న సుమరివాలా.. 2015 నుంచి డబ్ల్యూఏ కౌన్సిల్‌లో సభ్యుడిగా ఉన్నాడు. సెబాస్టియన్‌ కో ప్రపంచ అథ్లెటిక్స్‌ అధ్యక్షుడిగా తిరిగి ఎన్నికయ్యాడు.
Who is the Indian who has been elected as the Vice-President of World Athletics (WA)?
- Athletics Federation of India (AFI) President Adil Sumariwala has received a rare honour. He was elected as the Vice President of World Athletics (WA) on 17 August 2023.
- Sumariwala is the first Indian to hold the post of vice-president of the world's most powerful federation of track and field.
- 65-year-old Sumariwala, who has been the president of AFI since 2012, got the third highest number of votes in the recent elections.
- Sumariwala is one of the four vice-presidents. He will continue in office for four years.
- Sumariwala, who participated in the Olympics as a 100m athlete, has been a member of the WA Council since 2015. Sebastian Coe was re-elected as World Athletics President.
